Taiwan media Electronic Times said that as Samsung Electronics promotes the strategic transformation and upgrade of DRAM memory process technology, many DDR4 modules (memory bars) using old 1y nm (second-generation 10nm) process DRAM particles will be discontinued.
Samsung Electronics is rapidly promoting the conversion of traditional DRAM memory production lines to newer products such as DDR5 and HBM, which also means that DDR3 and DDR4, which are closely related to the old process, will be gradually discontinued.
Specifically, many supply chain companies have reported that they have received product EOL (end of life) notification letters. The last order date for many 8GB or 16GB DDR4 SODIMM/UDIMM memory sticks is early June this year, and the last shipment will be completed on December 10, 2025.
It is reported that Samsung Electronics has stopped production of DDR3 in the second quarter of 2024; the proportion of 1y nm DDR4 production capacity in the total will be rapidly reduced from around 20% last year to less than 10% in the second half of this year; the next generation 1z nm DDR4 is expected to be discontinued in 2027.
